The pursuit of happynes is one of the best biography movies in United States box office. This film is inspired by true story from Chris Gardner, a CEO stockholder who has hard experience in his life. From salesman, homeless, divorce, single parents until being a rich stockholder is the parts of Chris Gardner’s life which is filmed by Gabriele Muccino and released by Columbia Pictures on 2006. This film is also called motivation film because it tells how to struggling in a life.

Synopsis

This movie starts in 1981 San Fransisco. Chris Gardner(Will Smith) is a salesman of bone density scanner.  He has spent his savings to buy a franchise of bone density scanner with his wife, Linda(Thandie Newton). Chris has to sell two scanners in a month to pay rent home and daily care. But it is hard for Chris, so Linda as a laundry worker has to fulfill their necessary. Their complicated life makes Linda be surprised then leave Chris to go to New York. She wants to bring her son, Christhoper (Jaden Smith) but it is not allowed by chris Gardner.

Chris Gardner meets a manager, Jay Twistle(Brian Howe) to apply for stockholder in Dean Witter Reynolds. Chris gets a training without salary from this company. It is hard for chris because he just get income from scanner. It's hardfor chris because he gets no income so he can’t pay his rent. During training in Dean Witter Reynolds, Chris’s life so complicated, he was kicked from rent so he try to look for some place to sleep. At first night he lost his home, he sleeps at toilet with Christhoper, he has to hold back the door to prevent somebody come in. It is most emotive part in this film because it looks real. Then he looks for some homeless shelter. Besides move by one place to another place to stay, Chris always study about stockholder by a book he got from training class. Finally he is a chosen one to be stockholder in Dean Witter.

Overall this film is a complete drama because there are naturally of sadness and happiness from part by part of this film. One of naturally part is Christopher’s gesture because he looks smooth with his character. This film also has unique character where is Jaden Smith is a true son of Will Smith so their character looks naturally. Some attractive parts are when Will Smith shows his sad and happy expressions, it looks so deep. Characterization is also interest thing where is Chris Gardner is an entrepreneur also a single parent, so he has explicit character. However it is not perfect film because there are some shortages such as the sounds of this film is not variable, so it makes bored for some stages in this film but overall this is easy to be understood, it is also very motivational.

Moral Lesson

-          We aren’t allowed to surrender in our life because as long we want to try we will get it.

-          “Don’t ever let somebody to tell you, you can’t do something. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period” This Chris’ quote is so cool .

There are some comments for this film such as it is better if there are more quotes from the actors because it is easy to be imitated by young people especially. I think it will be a better film if the sounds are more diverse.
